Who We Are & Where To Find Us

Primary Trainer Tammie Bullard

With a passion for helping people get confident in looking out for themselves and the people they live, travel and work with, pulling decades of experience in emergency services, lecturing and training together into one business has long been the goal.

Combining this work with the kind of outdoor adventures that bring me happiness, makes it the dream.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is the training designed for?

Any person who wants to learn will find something to suit, but the majority include the following:

    • Families who want more day trips or camping, but feel more secure knowing they can look after children and loved ones if something goes wrong.
    • Individuals craving a confidence boost by increasing knowledge and skill for safe solo adventures.
    • Smart sporting groups, businesses and organisations that recognise the value of combining mandatory training, with a fun, team focused approach.
    • Organisations with team members who need upskilling or refresher training.
    • Tagalong and outdoor tour operators looking to provide additional value to participants.
  • Where are courses located?

Off Road Aid is based in Western Australia, so most in-person training is held in the northern suburbs of Perth, with some courses and workshops in more remote areas through WA and interstate.

Digital courses are available online 24/7 no matter the location, and the workshops are via video link on a weekly or monthly basis to suit a range of time zones.

We love to travel, so any training can be tailored to in-house or specific locations, just get in touch if that's something you're keen to discuss.

  • Who delivers the training?

Tammie delivers the majority of training if it's in Western Australia or online, but for larger group numbers and overnight or extended courses, other team members help out.

This includes the addition of approved trainers where required, as well as passionate outdoor people who love to get involved in the logistics side of things.

  • Are courses nationally recognised?

Physical & Mental Health First Aid

We partner with Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909) and use their online digital learning system to make sure all participant pre-work is easy to complete on a mobile device or laptop.

Mental Health First Aid Australia Sessions

As Tammie is a licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor, we are able to provide this training content in addition to our standard courses.

    Outdoor Confidence Coaching

This training is not nationally recognised. It's been designed through a career in emergency services, crisis management and outdoor pursuits to address some of the most common concerns that play on people's minds when they venture outside.

    Certificates & Statements Of Attainment

For simplicity's sake, if there's a course code within the class title, this means that it's nationally recognised.

In order to receive a statement of attainment for this training, you will need to complete online or in class learning, and be deemed competent in both theory and practice.

If there is no course code, you'll still receive a certificate of attendance, but there will be minimal or no coursework to be done.

  • Can I learn 4WD and survival skills?

When it comes to training others, we stick to what we know best, and that's how to cope in emergencies.

Four wheel driving is something we love, along with outdoor survival, but there are plenty of experts in these fields who've spent entire careers fine tuning their craft.

We prefer to team up with or refer clients to the professionals for specific training, so get in touch if you'd like us to organise a collaborative course or need a recommendation.

  • How do 100% online courses work?

All of our online courses are delivered instantly on purchase, but live workshops and 1:1 sessions are via Zoom or a similar platform.

You don't have to be technologically advanced. Our system walks you through the simple steps, all you need is a mobile device or laptop to jump in and join us.

  • How are you qualified in this field?

Tammie is a registered paramedic and has spent most of her career in state ambulance services and emergency management. A degree in paramedical science, along with an intensive care postgrad and critical care masters support the technical medical side of things.

As far as teaching goes, this background spans tutoring, mentoring, coaching and lecturing, so she's picked up lots of tips and tricks along the way to help tailor style and content in ways that suit most settings and learning styles.

Any trainers that work with us also have an emergency response background. Adding this helps focus the learning on differences between providing first aid in a regular setting vs dealing with an outdoor crisis in more challenging and often remote environments.

Our logistics support team are generally not qualified instructors, so they work either in the background, behind the scenes on the indoor office side of things, or help out on courses to make sure our participants and trainers have everything they need to keep things moving in an organised, fun and productive way.

  • How did Off Road Aid get started?

During countless emergency ambulance calls over the years, I was always blown away by the heroic willingness of bystanders to lend a hand.

On other days, it was hard to watch the frustration shared by so many, those who wished they knew how to help when faced with a crisis. Doing something now, to increase that confidence, is massively rewarding.

With this in mind, it made sense to pull all of my passions into a business, so Off Road Aid kicked into gear in early 2023.

Not only do I get to spend most of my time outside (even when I have to be indoors, the focus is still on fresh air and favourite places), I get to spend time with motivated humans. People who simply want to learn vital skills, look after each other and increase their confidence to venture into the great outdoors.

Camping, trekking, kayaking, four wheel driving and remote locations are favourites during downtime, so being able to bring this into my day job is an absolute privilege.

  • Are course fees tax deductible?

Accounting is not our niche, but we do provide a simple tax invoice (we are GST registered) for every course as evidence of your purchase.

Your tax adviser will be able to help decide if this can be declared as a deductible expense.

  • Who are the pups in your photos?

Hamish is my sidekick and travelling companion. A spotty faced rescue dog with the looks and personality of all seven breeds that he's made up of.

The older staffy, who features less often, is Henry. My son and his partner rescued him from the pound as an unwanted pup after he had one of his legs amputated.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for those who aren't so keen on dogs) neither come along to courses, but they love to help out with scoping locations, testing tasty treats and the odd photo shoot.
